Lead Based Paint Activities Certification – A MUST!

Danger! Lead Based PaintThe U.S. Enviornmental Protection Agency (EPA) has drastically changed it’s rules in regard to activities that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes and child-occupied facilities.  Starting on April 22, 2010 all paint contractors MUST be certified and use lead-safe work practices during renovations.

WHAT DOES THE HOMEOWNER NEED TO KNOW?

  1. The health risks of lead poisoning are very serious.  Lead is especially hazardous to children under the age of six and pregnant women.  Lead exposure causes permanent damage.
  2. The RRP Rule affects owners of homes that were built prior 1978.  Federal law requires that individuals receive certain information before renovating six square feet or more of painted surfaces in a room for interior projects or more than twenty square feet of painted surfaces for exterior projects.  The following pamphlet must be provided to you:  http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovaterightbrochure.pdf
  3. NEW!! EFFECTIVE JULY 6th, 2010.  The EPA  NO LONGER ALLOWS for the “Opt-Out Provision”. EPA is also requiring renovation firms to provide a copy of the records demonstrating compliance with the training and work practice requirements of the RRP rule to the owner and, if different, the occupant of the building being renovated or the operator of the child-occupied facility.

Both Dennis Siegfried and Daniel Smith hold  certificates of completion as a Lead Renovator. They have applied to the EPA to hold the necessary Lead Based Paint Activities License and are qualified to perform renovation and repair work.
